Hello Room 211 Families,
Today another permission form came home with your child. This one is for an end of year day trip to Gatineau Park (second last day). The cost for the bussing is $8, and we will be going to hike the King Mountain trail. It is a great outing, and should be a wonderful way to close off our year. Volunteers are encouraged to come along for this great outing.
Another form went home yesterday for the Alternative Activity Day at Summit this Thursday. This is a great tradition, and it will be a fun day for all, with activities being led by former Churchillians who attend Summit Alt. We need volunteers for the walk over and back, so let us know if you are available. Students need to come with a hearty lunch, a full water bottle, sun protection, and shoes for moving around and running in. We will be outside most of the day so they should dress for it.
Next Tuesday, the 19th, we will be travelling to Crystal Bay PS, to help out our pen pals with a fun activity day. This will be the fourth year that students from Churchill will be running this event. Crystal Bay is supplying the bussing, and picking up the tab for a simple lunch (pizza, water, chips I believe). In return we will be coming up with stations for their students to rotate through, and then we will run the events for the day. --- For those of you who are not clear on this, the students from Crystal Bay all have a range of exceptionalities that make accessing the curriculum in a traditional way a challenge for them. We met with them a couple of weeks back in a very special even in our gym. Our class got so much out of that interaction, and I know they will just shine on the fun day. I would love to have a few volunteers who could help support us on this trip. There will be water balloons, bubbles, parachutes, etc. to all organize and then oversee. Any donations of bubbles, or even bubble gear, would be greatly appreciated. Forms will come home for this trip tomorrow.
School of Rock 13 is this Friday!!! The daytime show will get underway in our gymnasium at 11:45, and the evening show is at 7pm. The playground fundraising event/auction is happening in conjunction with S of R 13, so come early, check out the silent auction in the lobby, and catch the live auction halfway through the show. This will be an event to remember. We have performed "on the road" at four different venues in recent weeks (5 places over the year), but this will be our most electrifying show of the year with our student musicians pulling out all the stops. Buttons are on sale for $2 all week, and at the show to support the playground initiative. Donations will be collected at the event to support the playground.
The honouring ceremony will be on Monday, June 25th, at 8:10am in our gymnasium. Students have already started getting ready for the event. Parents and other family members are encouraged to join us for the ceremony. Following the morning's events, the grade 5/6 classes will be walking to Dovercourt for a picnic lunch, and an afternoon of field games celebrating the 6's moving on, and the 5's moving up. Parents are encouraged to join us for this event as well. Snack donations for the picnic in the park portion would be greatly appreciated by the students. There will be 60 students. Easy contributions are a watermelon, some fruit, crackers and cheese, etc (things that can be carried and eaten easily with little garbage).
Chalk Festival...because we don't have enough going on!!! On Thursday, June 21, from about 11 am to 12:30, our class will be organizing and hosting the annual Churchill Chalk Festival. This is an outdoor activity aimed at getting students out, mixing in multi aged groups, and getting creative. We would gladly take any donations of sidewalk chalk that you can spare. Drop them off at the office, or bring them up to class if you can, and come along for some creative fun on the 21st.
