I am hoping to get everyone up to date on what lies ahead, so we can all stay on top of the action. First let me apologise for being out of touch the past week. I had to travel out of town last week for a funeral in my wife's home town, so I have been a bit preoccupied. I hear that the class did a great job with the alternative sports day. Owen G. mentioned that it was a great day and that our class represented themselves well overall.
Tomorrow we travel to Rogers communications for our day in the spotlight. Just a few bits of info to get us up to speed. They sent me an up to date draft of our schedule there, and it has us starting at 10:00, which means that we will not be leaving Churchill until just after 9:30am. This means that the day will start as normal, and once the class comes back from French at 9:20 we will start to get ready to leave for the walk. The walk takes 10 min. I have one confirmed volunteer, and we need one other. Let me know if you can make it.
Once there we will have a studio tour, and get a chance to learn how to use some of the equipment (including the cameras). During the recording of the daytime show we will have a chance to put some students in front of the cameras as part of the set. If students returned those waivers that came home Wednesday, they will be able to appear onscreen. If they do not bring those in, they will just watch from off camera. Rogers needs this kind of media release from all 'performers'. I have one or two extras in class, if anyone needs to sign one before school tomorrow.
Tuesday is the Alternative Schools track and field meet. Shannon has done a ton of work to organize this event for us, and it will be a fabulous day I am sure. I will be accompanying the athletes on this event.
Thursday is our trip to Crystal Bay school, where we will be helping to run an activity day for their school body. This will be a long day for our students, so please make sure they bring a water bottle (they will be able to refill at Crystal Bay) and sun screen, and a hat, and that they dress for an active play type of day outside. Extra snack in their lunches would be advised (there is a simple hot dog, water, and chips lunch being provided by the school as well, but I would pack a regular lunch for your child just to be safe).
Please note that there are three weeks of school left. If your child will not be attending school for the whole of these three weeks (the last day is actually Thursday, June 30th) then I would like to know right away so we can plan accordingly (we have year ending activities planned).
Also, for grade 6 parents, please keep the morning of Monday, June 27th free so you can attend the honouring ceremony for the leaving grade 6 students. It will be about a 1 hour event.
I will be in touch again soon about events on the near horizon. Take care!
