’Twas the Last Day of School Before Winter Break
’Twas the last day of school, - when all through the halls,
Kids were stir- crazy, because - they weren’t allowed to play with balls.
The backpacks were stuffed - by the doors without care,
In hopes that the buses - soon would be there.
The students were buzzing, - all bouncing with cheer,
While dreaming of Labubu - plushies this year.
And Taylor Swift lyrics - were sung without fear—
(Except near the office, - where Matt said, “Not in here!”)
Principal Vanessa - marched by with a grin,
Counting down in her head - to when the holidays begin.
And Kathleen sorted late slips - with clerical flair,
While wishing for coffee, - pajamas, and fresh air.
The French teachers Shellie and Ally - spoke rapidement,
Trying to squeeze in one more - “bonjour, comment…”
But the kids only answered - with holiday shrieks—
Something about Duo Lingo - and 40-day streaks.
The kinders with Youri - and Pete were a sight,
Half covered in glitter, - all sticky and bright.
Vanessa, Dorcas, Avra and Amy - all worked faster
To un-stick a child - from a craft-ing disaster.
The snow outside piled up - cold, deep, and white,
But pajama-clad students declared it “SO BRIGHT.”
They begged for bubble tea, - or a K-Pop movie break,
(“Teacher, can we watch Demon Hunters? - For learning’s sake?”)
Then down the hall strummed Owen, - ukulele in hand,
Trying to organize - a holiday band With Michelle he led a singalong - that was cheerful and quick
To make the kids happy, - a Taylor Swift remix.
Superstar teachers, - Madison, Jane, Jenna and Donna
Were herding the primaries—“Stay calm, we implore ya!”
But markers rolled freely, - glue sticks took flight,
And someone made “slime” - that just wasn’t right.
Up in their classrooms - Ray and Stacey could see, that their students were louder - than they’re meant to be While Tiiu, Holly and Maddi - could only say, That their kids were bouncing - like sleigh-bells that day!
Cathy and Heather - gave support with care,
Calming the chaos, - and finding lost wear.
Alice the lunch monitor - patrolled with great might,
Saving lunches from spills - making snack-time a delight.
Outside on the yard - Dan looked all around At the mountains of snow - he had shoveled off of the ground Next week with no kids, - he’ll put his shovel away To rest his sore back - and watch the Maple Leafs play
Kether, Jennifer Lynne, - Sarah, Krista, and G’Day—
Guided kids through the mayhem - with smiles all day.
They zipped coats, held hands, - and soothed every frown,
And moved through the hallways - following every shrill sound
Then out in the yard - there arose such a clatter,
Staff peeked through the windows - to see what was the matter!
The buses had arrived—victory in sight!
Winter break was moments away—pure delight!
The students filed out - in a frosty parade,
Dreaming of gaming, hot chocolate, - and sleepovers made.
Teachers waved sweetly, -all calm and all chill—
Then the final bus turned… and rolled down the hill.
AND THEN—
In a flash, the staff cheered with holiday glee,
As they sprinted back inside - shouting, “WE’RE FREE!”
Reports could wait - (maybe), marking too—
For now there was celebrating and leftover fondue.
Crafts were unplugged, - glue sticks retired,
No one assigned homework—everyone’s tired!
Pajamas stayed on, - hot coffees appeared,
And someone yelled, - “VACATION IS HERE!”
So happy last day to all—through the cold and the snow,
Through the glitter, the chaos,- the students’ wild glow.
Enjoy all the movies, - sleep, snacks, and play…
Happy Winter Break to all—
And to all, a snow day!
