Math Magic

Monday morning lay ups.

This Thursday is the big three on three basketball event for the alternative schools. We've been preparing for it for several weeks now. The students are getting pretty smooth.

Fraction Pizza Math Art Installation

Our library will feature a display by the students of room 308 for the next week.  Be sure to stop in while you are at the school to check out the hard work done by our class as they demonstrated their understanding of fractions, equivalents, compliments, and fraction equations by creating fraction pizzas, and the pizza parlour packaging to go with them.

Poetry Slam 2016!

This week the students from 308 have been presenting poems in our poetry slam.  Our slam has not focused on competition between presenters, but rather has provided an encouraging setting for the students to present poems by themselves and others.  Everyone has participated, with most sharing three or four different poems.  By far the highlights have been the collaborative poems for two voices, and the song rewrites (which have typically resulted in whole class sing along a for the chorus at least).

The teas (non caffeinated and herbal) and biscuits were welcomed by the poets, and calmed some presenter nerves.
