Another Magical Experience

Today was another fine example of the students from room 308 doing themselves their school and the community proud. Our and penpals from Crystal Bay came this afternoon. From the moment they arrived until we waved them goodbye at the bus as it was pulling away, the students from Room 308 showed leadership, compassion and friendship courage, and community.  They do not have the same type of daily experiences at Crystal Bay that we have at Churchill.   They have challenges with communication movement and every day survival skills such as eating dressing toileting etc.  The students in the class admitted to having feelings of apprehension at the beginning of the visit. As a group, our students all admitted that those feelings either melted away or changed over the course of our time together today. At the end of our visit pals had met each other, interacted for a while playing games telling jokes and some of them just running around and having fun.  Despite some of her communication issues, the students found a way to come up with a common understanding of each other's feelings and ideas. It was inspiring for me to witness and moving for me to be a part of. We shared snack together with our buddies and then we finished off the visit by performing two songs on on ukuleles, to which how our pen pals sang along with, clapped along, and celebrated.
Today was truly a magical day
